August • Great Start to the Summer, Fun Weekend Success, ILCC Patrol & Club House Renovation Upd

August 2018 - President's Message:

Hello … Indian Lake!

What a great start to our 2018 Summer season! The weather has truly been amazing, however we could have used some rain … mother nature can be difficult. As I write this message, we just had a wonderful July 4th celebration with someone imperfect weather. It was a great day to take in everything the lake has to offer from the beauty of our flare ceremony, awesome weather and some spectacular parties all in celebration of our great country’s birthday! Fun Weekend was also amazing. The turnout was off the charts and the weather was nothing short of perfection. This awesome event was in the capable hands of none other than Sports Trustee, Scott Dixon. Scott is under immense pressure, however he’s not alone Bob Covello, Jerry Blumhoefer and Alan Tecchio helped keep everything rolling. It doesn’t stop there, all the support of our great Sub-Clubs, fabulous life-guards, Beach Manager, ILCC Patrol and the countless volunteers provide led to a safe, exciting, and an incredibly Fun Weekend!

Speaking of volunteers, it’s appropriate to mention that you have a tireless Board of Trustees who give a great deal back to the ILCC along with many other volunteers within each of the Sub-Clubs. My ask is simple, never lose sight of the fact that we are all volunteers, with full-time jobs and active family lives. Your Board of Trustees and Sub-Club and Sports volunteers do not get paid, yet they keep coming back often thanklessly.

As I’ve mentioned it prior messages, it is up to each of us to ensure only members use lake property. That includes the lake, landings, beaches, clubhouse, playground, athletic courts, parking lots and all lake owned dock structures. Your membership pays for all these items, so if you see a trespasser speak up and don’t hesitate to call the police. The ILCC Patrol cannot be everywhere. In addition, the ILCC Patrol is actively claiming untagged boats. If your boat still isn’t tagged you can expect it to go missing, as it will be viewed as ILCC property.

Thank you to all who have joined or paid their Fair Share Upkeep! It’s amazing to see so many people realizing the value that this lake brings. Speaking of value. Many of us visit the clubhouse regularly and couldn’t imagine ILCC life without it. This is what led to the genesis of the Clubhouse Renovation Committee. Across Fun Weekend there were various rumors associated with the status of the project. Let me immediately put any concerns to rest.

While we did have some delays associated with updating our plans to align with positive feedback from a meeting with the DEP, we feel very positive based on the discussions with the DEP. They are supportive of our efforts and even commented that they liked our renovation project given the history of Indian Lake. With that said, their feedback led us to adjust the plans and expand the size of the club by another 400 sq ft. This is great news given the volume of interest members have to attend functions. Our next step is to hold an initial discussion with the Town Engineer and the Building Department, similar to what we did with the DEP, to address concerns and issues upfront before we proceed further. Providing there are no issues I will ask the Board to hire an Environmental Engineer to certify that we have no Wetlands on or adjacent to the Clubhouse property. While we do not believe there will be any issues this was a requirement of the DEP. At this point the Board will be in a position to determine if and when we proceed forward with a renovated clubhouse.

With that, I wish you a safe and happy summer!

Kind regards,

Mike Gavin

ILCC President
