Junior Lifeguard Instructor

Reports to Swim Lessons Director 

Key Responsibilities:

-Teach basic lifeguard skills to younger participants.

Provide assistance with water safety demonstrations, CPR, first aid, and rescue techniques.

Help participants build swimming and water survival skills in a safe and structured environment.

Ensure junior lifeguards follow proper safety protocols during training and practice.

Observe participants' progress and provide feedback to help them improve their skills.

Enforce rules and regulations for water safety, ensuring a safe environment for both participants and instructors.

Assist in leading land drills and water exercises.

Set up training equipment such as flotation devices, rescue tubes, and other necessary tools.

Offer encouragement and support to junior lifeguards as they develop their skills.

Ensure that training areas, pools, and surrounding environments are kept clean and well-maintained.

Inspect and maintain safety equipment regularly, reporting any issues to senior staff.

Communicate effectively with junior lifeguards, parents (if applicable), and facility staff.

 

Assist with documentation of junior lifeguards’ progress and any incidents during training sessions.

Model proper behavior and encourage teamwork, responsibility, and professionalism in all activities.

Provide positive reinforcement and constructive criticism to encourage skill development and personal growth.

Qualifications:

  • Age Requirement:  Must be at least 16 years old

  • Certifications:  Current CPR and First Aid certification 

  • Skills:

    • Strong swimming skills and knowledge of water safety.

    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with participants and team members.

    • Leadership qualities, patience, and ability to work with children or youth.

  • Experience:  Prior experience in lifeguarding, teaching swimming or teaching a junior lifeguard course.

 

Physical Demands:

Ability to swim for extended periods.

Ability to lift and carry equipment, including rescue tools.

Stand, walk, and move around the facility for long periods.

Ability to get into the water with students for demonstrations.
